In the event of an incident/accident on a beach, slipway or inland waters during pleasure boating or a formal boating event – a liability approach for a third-party loss or accident, may well be directed at the club or entity which has been given the right to operate or co-ordinate boating activities from that area or facility.

Our new Launch site/Slipway Operators Liability Cover offers cover between R1 Million – R20 Million from as little as R180 per month.

The policy covers:

  • Clubs, marinas, and other entities operating slipways and launch sites - coastal and inland!
  • Duty officers, tractor drivers, vehicle operator and those performing duties and or services to boat users
  • Launch areas under club control – extending to launch or slipways areas on land and to a designated range in the water
  • Temporary launch sites – for events and competitions
  • Boat yards, fuel pump sites and more

While any loss or damage to third parties or passengers resulting in a liability matter will normally first come against the skipper of a boat who is ultimately the responsible person, the club or operator may well be pulled into a liability case, especially if the entity is deemed to have some sort of control over the boats that utilise the launch facility. The legal costs alone to defend the case can become crippling.

While your club may have provision for public liability, most liability covers end at the water’s edge, as it then becomes a marine risk, resulting in gaps.

Whistling is considered a “no, no” for superstitious sailors!?

“Fair winds and following seas” is well-known as the nautical blessing for a safe journey. According to a centuries-old myth, this could be put at risk by simply blowing tunes from your mouth while onboard.

Apparently, whistling stirs up the wind and disturbs the seas around your yacht!

And you NEVER challenge the wind!
